The Divisional high secretariat of Deraniyagala was established in the private residence at Deraniyagala vidyala mawatha in 1974 as the office of the Divisional Revenue Officers. • At that time, the Grama Niladhari division was divided in to nine divisions and Ballahela, Nilwala, Udabage, Nakkawita, Maliboda, Magala, Kosgahakanda, Udapola, Deraniyagala were the Grama Niladhari Divisions.
• At that time there were Divisional Revenue officer, 6 clerks, 1 Rural development officer, 9 Grama Niladhari, 3 Development officers, 2 Colonization officers, 1 Youth service officer, 2 Office work assistants, 1 Watcher and 1 Driver.
• In 1974, the Divisional Revenue officer was change to the Assistant Government Agent’s post and by 1980, the special service officers were absorbed into the Grama Niladhari Service and with 14 Grama Niladhari divisions.
• By 1989 Cultivation officers and Agricultural extension officers were absorbed into the Grama Niladhari divisions. This division extended to 26 Grama Niladhari divisions.
• During this period all the activities were handled by the Kegalle divisional secretariat and payment of salaries of the officers was carried out by the District Secretariat.
• On December 1, 1992 the office was declared as the Deraniyagala Divisional Secretariat with the objective of providing more efficient service to the public on the decisions of the government by the year 1992 under the devolution of power.
• At present, there are 138 staff in all Divisional Secretariat.
